Liu Fengxian, a renowned female painting and calligraphy artist of contemporary China with a high reputation both at home and abroad, was born in 1942. She has been deeply passionate about fine arts since childhood, worked as an art teacher for many years in her early years, and received personal guidance and instruction from the great Chinese painting master Huang Zhou. For decades, she has devoted herself to studying the theories and brushwork techniques of painting with unremitting efforts, focusing her creation mainly on flower-and-bird painting, especially excelling in painting plum blossoms and longevity peaches. Her works are magnificent, fresh and pleasant, with a festive and progressive spirit as well as a distinct sense of the times; the plum blossoms in her paintings stand defiantly against frost and snow with vigorous and craggy branches, while the longevity peaches are plump, mellow, lifelike with both form and spirit. Her brushwork is bold and unrestrained, her ink application is fresh and elegant, and she has achieved the perfect integration of ink and color through the masterful use of the five shades of ink: thick, heavy, light, clear and burnt. Upholding the creative philosophy of learning from ancient traditions without being constrained by them, and inheriting the essence without rigid copying, she integrates poetry into painting, builds the framework with calligraphy, and casts the soul with academic accomplishment, deeply combining the bone-method brushwork with emotional expression, expressing her emotions and aspirations through the images in her works, thus realizing the high unity of brushwork techniques, humanistic connotation and the spirit of the times. Known as the "Oriental Talented Lady" for her comprehensive attainments in poetry, calligraphy and painting, she holds concurrent positions such as Honorary Chairman, Honorary Dean, Honorary Curator, Academician, Visiting Professor and Public Welfare Ambassador in more than 10 domestic and international art organizations, and is the only well-known State Gift Painter officially named at the "China-US Brand Conference" held at the United Nations.
